What a Fire Engineer can do

The Building Code of Australia (BCA), also called the National Construction Code (NCC), has prescriptive, or Deemed to Satisfy (DTS) requirements.
If you have a DTS non-compliance, it may be possible to provide a Performance Based Alternative Solution.
Common examples include extended travel distances to a required exit, unprotected openings too close to a boundary, and reduced Types of Construction.

There may also be non-compliances with States specific Regulations, State Fire Brigade Guidelines and Australian Standards.
Once a Building Certifier has identified non-compliances with any of the above mentioned prescriptive requirements, then a suitably qualified fire engineer can be engaged.
Florian can undertake fire engineering work, that is develop Performance Based Alternative Solutions, in any Australian State or Territory.
Note that a “Fire Engineer” does not design, install or commission fire systems, such as AS1670.1 detection or AS2118.1 sprinkler systems., and that Florian does not provide these services.

Bushfire Design

Florian may be able to assist with any Australian Standard 3959:2009 “Construction of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas” (in States other than SA) or BCA Volume 2 Table SA 3.7.4.1 (in SA) related non-compliance.

Because Florian’s Director is a Chartered Fire Engineer with a Bushfire Design Graduate Diploma, Florian can develop Performance Based Alternative Solutions in Bushfire Prone Areas.

Florian can also arrange for a Bushfire Assessment Level (BAL) in either NSW or the ACT, using Bushfire Planning and Design (BPAD) accredited professionals, and then include that BAL in any Fire Engineered Report (FER).

BPAD Accreditation was implemented in NSW in 2006, Victoria in 2012, and WA in 2015. There is currently no BPAD Accreditation Scheme for SA.

Florian is currently listed with Fire Protection Association Australia FPA Australia in SA as a Provider of Choice for the provision of Bushfire Products/Services (non-accredited).
